WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — One man is dead after being hit on Interstate 81 in Wythe County Friday afternoon.

According to Virginia State Police, 31-year-old John Sampson of Princeton, West Virginia was changing his tire on the shoulder when he was hit by a car. The driver of the car, Jennifer Chambers, was merging onto I-81 and lost control, leading to the car spinning, running off the road, and striking Sampson.

Chambers was not injured but was charged with reckless driving for failure to maintain control of her vehicle, says VSP.

The crash remains under investigation.
