CORRECTION: The westbound right lane of Route 460 in Giles County is still closed on Monday following a mudslide from last week, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — After a week of detours and slow traffic, drivers can now use Route 460 in both directions to get into and out of the western part of Giles County.
On Feb. 21, Route 460 near Rich Creek was shut down due to a mudslide that completely blocked all lanes of traffic.
In the days after, additional lanes slowly reopened.
Since the mudslide occurred, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) says crews have removed more than 1,000 cubic yards of material — including dirt and debris from the roadway and from the slope along Route 460 West — from the slide location.
On Sunday, Feb. 28, WFXR News spoke with the Giles County Sheriff’s Office, who was able to confirm that all lanes of traffic have been reopened.
