GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) continues to indicate that Route 460 is still shut down due to the weekend slide that dropped copious amounts of mud onto both lanes of travel north of Rich Creek.

A detour is still in place as drivers can use Lurich Road, on the opposite side of the New River.

Crews are still in the process of evaluating what caused the slide. Jason Bond with VDOT tells WFXR News that there was a waterline break but it is still unclear whether the water line breaking caused the slide or if the slide put enough pressure on the waterline to cause it to rupture.

VDOT says they are not sure when the road will reopen.
