CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The skeletal remains of a young child were found in 2022 in a trash can in Carroll County, according to the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs).

A report from NamUs, which is an organization that works with the U.S. Department of Justice, shows the remains were discovered in a garbage can in a wooded area on Sep. 6, 2022, but a new report was created on Jan. 11, 2023. The remains were found near a gray/blue sleeping bag, a white blanket with pink flowers, and a Winnie the Pooh piece of cloth. During the discovery, officials also located strands of hair of one to two inches.

Authorities have not identified who the remains belong to, but they believe the child was in the age range of four and seven. They also believe the child died in 2017.

Additional information about this discovery is not available at this time.
