DUBLIN, Va. (WFXR) — A major fire broke out at the pool house at Randolph Park on the afternoon of May 26.
Anthony Akers, the Assistant County Administrator for Pulaski County, shared that the facility was just days away from opening for the season.
Akers shared that around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, workers at the waterpark noticed what appeared to be some trees on fire nearby. They notified authorities, but moments later, the building was engulfed in flames.
The fire continued to grow, prompting every fire department available in Pulaski County to respond to the area. Multiple crews were able to extinguish the fire. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
While the nature of the fire is still under investigation, Akers believes the building is a total loss.
Akers, who has been with the park for 23 years, said, “We will make plans to rebuild.”
Due to the immense damage, the park will be closed indefinitely.
“It is a devastation to our community,” said Akers. “We’re trying to emotionally comprehend what happened right now.”
