PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Over the next few days, Pulaski County residents may hear the sound of aircrafts and pyrotechnics as the Radford Army Ammunition Plant (RFAAP) holds military training at the New River (Dublin) site.
According to the RFAAP, cadets from Virginia Tech and Radford University will conduct a four-day Field Training Exercise. In addition, the plant says the New River Battalion kicked it up a notched by calling in two Boeing CH-47 Chinooks to transport cadets to RFAAP at Dublin between 9 and 11 a.m. on Friday, April 9.
“Cadets will feel and experience their first Landing Zone (LZ) Pickup from the Blacksburg Airport, making their way to I-81 before being dropped off as if they were in combat at the RFAAP Dublin location,” the RFAAP posted on Facebook earlier this week. “This will truly provide them with the experience they have been looking and waiting for. Good Luck Cadets this weekend and train hard! River Forge!”
Pulaski County Emergency Management says the military training at the RFAAP will take place from Friday through the day on Sunday, April 11.
Emergency officials say military rotor wing aircraft and pyrotechnics will be used during the training, so that noise may be heard in the areas surrounding the facility over the weekend.
