Police arrest wanted man in Radford following overnight search efforts

RADFORD, Va. (WFXR) — Members of multiple New River Valley law enforcement agencies took part in an overnight search for a wanted man in Radford.

The Radford City Police Department says officers responded to a call for a person wanted out of Richlands, Virginia, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Radford, Va.

According to police, they conducted a search in the area surrounding Rock Road, with some help from members of the Radford University Police Department, the Virginia Tech Police Department, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Early in the morning on Thursday, Jan. 14, the department says 45-year-old Jason Edward Matney was taken into custody.

Matney was reportedly wanted on six warrants out of Richlands and is currently being held without bond in the New River Valley Regional Jail.

According to the jail, Matney faces charges for brandishing a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, kidnapping, and simple assault.
