GALAX, Va. (WFXR) — A firefighter is injured and a family of five lost their home after a fire broke out in a Galax mobile home Sunday night.
According to an early morning Facebook post from the Galax Fire Department on Monday, Sept. 20, crews were dispatched to a structure fire on Charity Lane at approximately 8 p.m.
When units arrived on scene, they found a working structure fire in a double-wide mobile home with approximately 50 percent of the structure involved in the flames.
However, all of the occupants and pets were accounted for, the department says.
Galax fire officials say members of the Glade Creek Volunteer Fire Department were called in to help with manpower and tanker shuttles. Meanwhile, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police assisted with traffic control.
First responders worked to save the belongings in several rooms, clearing the scene in approximately two hours, according to the department.
The American Red Cross is reportedly helping the displaced family of five.
In addition, one firefighter suffered a knee injury and was brought to the hospital for evaluation, fire officials say. There is no word on that firefighter’s condition as of this writing.
