WYTHEVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — The Wytheville Police Department wants to put the brakes on speeders with a new campaign.

The department launched the new tagline “Obey the Sign or Pay the Fine” as a way to keep drivers safe on the road.

According to the department’s Facebook post from Monday, Aug. 23, people who speed put themselves, passengers, and other drivers at risk. The post went on to say that speeding factored into 17 percent of fatal crashes on dry roads across the country, while 21 percent were on wet roads.

The Town of Wytheville has a speed limit of 25 mph, unless otherwise posted.
