Use of fireworks this New Year’s Eve sparks concerns in southwest Virginia

New River Valley News

GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — As we’re just about to kiss the year 2021 goodbye, those who are thinking about starting the new year off with a bang in southwest Virginia should think twice.

Emergency service officials are warning community members against using fireworks while celebrating New Year’s Eve.

Fireworks not only pose safety risks in reference to wildfires, but also pose general safety risks in regards to burns and explosions. We wish everyone a safe, healthy, and happy New Year and ask that they celebrate responsibly.
