GALAX, Va. (WFXR) — A home in the New River Valley has been ruled a total loss after first responders used thousands of gallons of water to extinguish an overnight structure fire.
According to fire officials, crews from the Galax Fire Department, Hillsville Fire Department, and Carroll County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to 1825 Pot Rock Road — which is close to each department’s jurisdiction line — at 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17 for a structure fire.
When units arrived at the scene, they found a fully-involved structure fire, as well as a half-acre brush fire.
After pumping several thousand gallons of water on the fire to bring it under control, firefighters say they cleared at 12:30 a.m. and were back home around 2 a.m.
“A very close friend asked earlier tonight how often we had to go out in the middle of the night. ‘Not often’ was my reply. JINX! You owe me,” the Galax Fire Department posted on Facebook shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 18.
The structure was deemed a total loss, but according to fire officials, there were no reports of injuries and neighbors said the home was unoccupied
The department says the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
