CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — A new pet food pantry is seeking help from the community to fill its shelves starting Wednesday.

This pet food pantry is located at the Mountain View Humane at 225 Industrial Drive in Christiansburg. It was created by Anna Anstey of Girl Scout Troop #568 as part of her Gold Award Project, which is the most prestigious award that Girl Scout seniors and ambassadors can earn.

“We’re so grateful to Anna for taking on this immense project,” said Sylvie Peterson, executive director of Mountain View Humane. “Anna fundraised this project, purchased supplies, assembled the shelving, and stocked the pantry full of pet food. We’ve seen a real need in our area for assistance like this, and we hope to make a difference in our community for members who may be struggling to provide for their pets.”

The food pantry will open on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. Then will be open on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. for anyone who needs assistance. Applicants can apply for assistance for pet food once a month in person. Those applying will need to provide proof of name and residence.

Those who would like to donate pet food can drop off unopened bags of dry dog food and unopened, opened, damaged bags of dry cat food Monday through Thursday between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
