UPDATE: I-81 North crash, traffic backup cleared in Montgomery County

UPDATE 9:39 a.m.: VDOT says crews have cleared the scene of the Montgomery County multi-vehicle crash that backed up motorists for up to seven miles along I-81 North Wednesday morning.

UPDATE 8:04 a.m.: Crews have reopened some of the lanes along I-81 North following Wednesday morning’s multi-vehicle crash in Montgomery County, but motorists are still backed up for miles.

VDOT says the northbound right shoulder and right lane at mile marker 113.5 are still closed as traffic delays reach seven miles on I-81.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Motorists in Montgomery County are backed up for several miles because of a two-vehicle crash closing down I-81 North Wednesday morning.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), all northbound lanes are closed at mile marker 113.5 on I-81.

However, drivers can still enter I-81 North from Route 8.

VDOT says traffic is currently delayed for approximately five miles along I-81 North.
