MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Firefighters in Montgomery County found themselves at a rural location Sunday night following reports of a burning barn and the sound of explosions.
Montgomery County Emergency Services posted on Facebook on Sunday, April 11 that members of the Riner Volunteer Fire Department, Riner Volunteer Rescue Squad, and Christiansburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire at approximately 9:10 p.m.
NRV 911 reportedly advised first responders that explosions were heard and a barn was on fire.
According to emergency officials, Riner’s Fire Chief arrived on scene and reported seeing heavy smoke and flames coming from a barn.
Firefighters from Riner launched a quick and aggressive interior attack, which ultimately saved the barn, Montgomery County Emergency Services says.
Because of the fire’s rural location, tankers from RFD and CFD were reportedly dispatched to supply the attack engines.
Even though the interior was extensively damaged, emergency officials say the barn itself is still structurally sound thanks to first responders’ quick efforts.
