MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Montgomery County Sherriff’s Office shared that beloved Deputy Larry Akers passed away on April 16th.
Akers served members of the New River Valley his entire life, working nearly 25 years with the sheriff’s office and volunteering over 30 years with the Longshop McCoy Fire Department in Blacksburg. Akers’ commitment and devotion to the community will be remembered.
The Montgomery County Sherriff’s Office released a statement saying, “Larry was a dear friend and co-worker to all of us. He has been a true example of service to others. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with his family during this time.”
