CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Galax man is awaiting extradition after leading law enforcement on multiple pursuits from Carroll County, Virginia to Surry County, North Carolina on Tuesday.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, April 13, a deputy tried to stop a Nissan sedan near the intersection of Kelly Road and Chances Creek Road in Fancy Gap.

However, the driver refused to stop, instead traveling from Chances Creek Road to Lambsburg Road and heading south toward Surry County, North Carolina.

Authorities say they pursued the vehicle, reaching speeds of up to 80 mph, but once the pursuit reached the North Carolina state line, they terminated the pursuit.

Shortly afterward, another deputy reportedly spotted the sedan traveling along Oak Ridge Road in the Cana community of Carroll County, but when the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, a separate pursuit was initiated.

The sheriff’s office says the pursuit continued onto Brushy Fork Road and Old Pipers Gap Road before the driver fled into Surry County again, traveling south on Pipers Gap Road.

According to authorities, the driver was later taken into custody off of Rick Road by members of the Surry County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say they obtained charges for the crimes committed in Virginia by the driver, who was identified as Devan Michael Anthony from Galax.

Anthony is reportedly being held at the Surry County Detention Center while awaiting extradition.
