UPDATE: I-81 south reopens after earlier tractor-trailer crash in Montgomery County

UPDATE 4:10 p.m.: All lanes of I-81 south have reopened around an earlier tractor-trailer crash at mile marker 107 in Montgomery County.

Backups are reducing but drivers can still expect some delays as traffic continues thinning out.

UPDATE 3:30 p.m.: VDOT now says that backups behind a tractor-trailer crash at mile marker 107 on I-81 south have backups of approximately four miles.

The detour is still in place as all southbound lanes are still shut down.

UPDATE 3:15 p.m.: VDOT says that due to the tractor-trailer crash on I-81 south in Montgomery County and the subsequent closure of the interstate at mile marker 107, traffic is being detoured at exit 109.

Traffic will take Route 666 (Tyler Road) to Rock Road to West Main Street and will return to I-81 south at mile marker 105.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A tractor-trailer crash has closed all southbound lanes of I-81 in Montgomery County.

The crash is located at mile marker 107, near the Radford exits or near Ingles Mountain.

Backups are said to be approximately two miles.

Drivers are urged to find another route.
