HILLSVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — Several fire departments from around the New River Valley battled a house fire Saturday night in Hillsville.

According to the Galax Fire Department, they — along with the Hillsville Fire Department, Carroll County Fire and Rescue, and Barren Springs Volunteer Fire Department — were dispatched to battle the blaze in the 200 block of West Stuart Drive at approximately 8:52 p.m. on Saturday, April 3.

When units arrived, they reportedly found heavy smoke pushing from the eaves of the home.

Crews attempted to fight the fire from inside, but with high heat and zero visibility, fire officials say they were not able to get through the house to the seat of the fire.

As a result, the windows were taken to allow water to hit the fire quickly, according to the department.

It took crews approximately two hours to fully extinguish the fire and complete overhaul.

No one was home at the time of the fire, but the house did sustain extensive damage, fire officials say.
