GRAYSON COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Students in Grayson County will start school two hours late because of a major local event taking place Tuesday morning.

Grayson County Public Schools Superintendent Kelly B. Wilmore announced on Facebook that school will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, Dec. 7 due to the expected traffic and parking issues associated with the grand opening of Food City at 8 a.m.

In addition, postponing school operations will allow district employees to take advantage of the free giveaways from the grand opening, Wilmore says.

According to Food City, the supermarket chain’s newest location in Independence had its open house on Monday, Dec. 6 — which was attended by numerous Grayson County first responders and community members — ahead of the official grand opening on Tuesday.
