GRAYSON COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Due to a number of factors — none of which include the coronavirus — Grayson County Public Schools will be closed on Friday, according to the district superintendent.
Grayson County Public Schools Superintendent Kelly B. Wilmore posted on Facebook that the county’s schools will be closed on Friday, Oct. 8, in part because of a recent rise in strep throat and stomach bug cases. Crews will reportedly conduct thorough cleaning and sanitizing on Friday to combat this.
In addition, the weather forecast is calling for heavy rain Friday morning, as well as possible flooding, according to Wilmore.
Wilmore also says there are teachers and students who need a day to get caught up, saying, “our kids and staff need a break! They are all exhausted and stressed to the max.”
However, the superintendent also clarified in his Facebook post that the closure is not related to COVID-19. Out of 1,900 people, Wilmore says the district only has 20 cases among students and staff.
