GRAYSON COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Crews from multiple Grayson County fire departments were dispatched to a structure fire along Flatridge Road Saturday morning that left a home seriously damaged.

According to the Rugby Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, crews were dispatched shortly before 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, March 6 to help Troutdale Volunteer Fire Department with a structure fire.

The Independence Volunteer Fire Department says their crews were dispatched about 30 minutes later for extra manpower with their interior attack crews.

When units arrived on scene, they found all the occupants had already evacuated, but there was still smoke showing. Firefighters worked to ventilate the home — which they entered to find the fire in an upstairs crawl space — before they quickly brought the fire under control.

Independence fire officials say the house sustained major damage, but there were no reports of injuries.

However, Rugby Rescue Squad members say they treated the occupants for minor smoke inhalation.
