GALAX, Va. (WFXR) — First responders from Galax had quite a shock Monday night when they arrived at the scene of a “violent” crash and found an engine completely separated from the vehicle, but no driver.

According to the Galax Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the single-vehicle crash at Pipers Gap and Shepherds Place at approximately 9:45 p.m. on Monday, July 5.

The shocking pictures shared by the department on Facebook show the vehicle completely totaled. In addition, crews reportedly found the engine 40 feet away from the vehicle.

However, investigations and searches by personnel from Galax and Pipers Gap Rescue Squad, Inc. did not lead to the discovery of any occupants, the department says.

Galax fire officials say it was later determined that the driver left the scene of the crash before emergency services arrived.
