(WFXR) — Galax firefighters had a busy Saturday evening, going from celebrating a wedding between two of their own to fighting a house fire in Hillsville.

At 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, the Galax Fire Department says members were enjoying “the beautiful wedding of Jessica and Pierce,” two firefighters with the department.

Then, at 5:45 p.m., crews had to leave the wedding to help the Hillsville Fire Department and the Laurel Fork Volunteer Fire Department with a structure fire at 4443 Snake Creek Road in Hillsville.

When units arrived on scene, they found a single-wide mobile home fully-involved in flames, as well as a one-acre brush fire.

Hillsville crews say they worked to suppress the structure fire and contain the flames in the surrounding woodlands. Meanwhile, Laurel Fork and Galax units reportedly assisted with overhaul and manpower.

Even though there were no reports of injuries, fire officials say the home was ruled a total loss.

However, the Galax Fire Department says all crews cleared the scene in about an hour-and-a-half, just in time to get back to Jessica and Pierce’s wedding reception and enjoy some cake!
