Former NRV lawmaker indicted on embezzlement charges

GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A former lawmaker has been indicted by a grand jury on embezzlement charges.

According to court documents, Joseph Ryan Yost, a Republican who represented the 12th District from 2012-2017 has been charged with embezzling funds from the Giles County Historical Society.

A grand jury indicted Yost on Tuesday after being accused of taking more than $800 while he was an employee at the Historical Society in 2019.

Yost was taken into custody on Wednesday.

Virginia State Police is handling the investigation.

Yost was unseated in the 12th District by Chris Hurst in 2017. The 12th District includes Giles County as well as parts of Montgomery and Pulaski counties.
