Floyd County implements temporary burn ban due to extremely dry conditions

FLOYD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Due to the high fire risk and dry weather conditions, fire officials say a burn ban will be in place for the next two months in Floyd County.

According to the Facebook page for Floyd County Volunteer Fire Department Station 2, this 60-day burn ban went into effect on Thursday, Dec. 16.

The department urges community members not to burn anything outside for your safety and the safety of those around you.

Seven other southwest Virginia localities — including DanvillePittsylvania CountyHalifax CountyCharlotte County, Henry County, Amherst County, and Carroll County — have implemented similar burn bans over the last three weeks amid concerns about the wildfire risk from dry weather conditions.
