FLOYD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Efforts to crack down on substances similar to marijuana could have unintended consequences for hemp stores around the Commonwealth.

Senate Bill 591 aims to expand the definition of marijuana to include Delta-8.

This bill was originally meant to protect children — since kids were reportedly hospitalized after accidentally eating cannabis gummies — but as it’s written now, the bill will have a much larger impact, which has many businesses concerned.

There are several petitions calling on Gov. Glenn Youngkin not to sign Senate Bill 591 into law.

Derek Wall is the co-owner of Buffalo Hemp Company in Floyd County, which sells a wide variety of Delta-8, CBD, and other products for adults and their pets.

He joined “Good Day Virginia” to discuss the impact this bill would have on businesses like his, as well as hemp processors and farmers.
