PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — First responders in Dublin were called to the New River Community College Tuesday evening after a fire alarm turned out to be an actual fire.
According to the Dublin Fire Department, crews were dispatched shortly after 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23 for a fire alarm at the New River Community College.
When first responders arrived at the scene, there was reportedly nothing evident from the exterior of the two-story commercial structure.
However, after further investigation, the department says firefighters found heavy smoke inside the building and the incident was upgraded to a working fire.
When more crewmembers arrived on scene, they went to the shop area, found a small fire being contained by the sprinkler system, and extinguished the remnants of the fire.
The remaining units helped with overhaul efforts, as well as a runoff hazmat issue, fire officials say.
