MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Montgomery County firefighter was treated for minor burns after crews responded to a structure fire in Shawsville Tuesday afternoon.

According to Montgomery County Emergency Services, NRV 911 alerted the Elliston Volunteer Fire Department, the Christiansburg Volunteer Fire Department, the Shawsville Volunteer Rescue Squad, and Christiansburg Rescue about a structure fire on Jacob Drive at 2:41 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Emergency officials say two Elliston firefighters were in the area and reported a large column of black smoke showing from a distance. When those first responders arrived at the scene, they found a fully-involved shed with flames spreading to the exterior wall of the residence.

After crews extinguished the wall of the residence before the fire got inside, they reportedly went to work suppressing the original shed fire.

Even though no civilian injuries were reported, Montgomery County Emergency Services says one firefighter sustained minor burns. However, that firefighter was treated and released by EMS crews at the scene.
