BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Hokie fans, there’s now a drink for you!
Tuesday, Virginia Tech announced a new partnership with Hardywood Park Craft Brewery out of Richmond to make the “Fighting Hokies Lager.”
A lot of time and planning, from what recipe to use to what brewery to partner with, has gone into the launch of this beer.
At 5% ABV, the beer will be a Munich-style helles lager, said to be crisp and refreshing.
The folks at Virginia Tech say they don’t plan to stop with just one beer, though.
“We’re going to go out with the lager, the Fighting Hokies Lager, but stay tuned for what might follow, perhaps seasonal brews or other full-time beer,” said Brandy Salmon, Virginia Tech’s Associate Vice President for Innovation and Partnerships. “We’ll see as we go, but we’re really excited about this milestone that we’ve reached today.”
Distribution of Fighting Hokies Lager is expected to start in the spring of 2021.
According to Salmon, a portion of the proceeds from sales will go toward expanding research programs at the university and also provide scholarship opportunities for students.
