BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Hokie Nation weighed in on Tuesday regarding the big shake-up with now-former head football coach Justin Fuente.
“It’s about time because it is really sad to have a coach that everyone boos and no one respects him in any way,” said Natalie Mueller, a Virginia Tech student.
Other members of the Hokie Nation are not holding back either. After what many people call a disappointing season, the decision announced on Tuesday, Nov. 16 is being met with positivity.
“I am pretty happy he is gone because we cannot win a game to save our lives at this point,” said Virginia Tech student Emily York.
Sophomore Cameron Warner says Fuente’s time was coming because he did not do well in the last two years. In addition, Warner says that all his friends, and many others on campus, wanted him gone.
Throughout campus, many other fans continued to weigh, saying they are tired of seeing the Hokies lose nail-biter games and they wish that Coach Frank Beamer had never left.
“Growing up here, and watching Frank Beamer have so much success, It was a great football team, and he got here and it has been sub-par per average. So, I’ve been disappointed with the last six years, but happy that we are moving forward,” said Brian King, another Virginia Tech student.
The general consensus among fans is that Fuente was not leading the Hokie football team down a great path.
