CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A woman was arrested following a vehicle pursuit by a Carroll County deputy earlier this month.
Earlier this month, on Sunday, July 3, a deputy from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy saw a Dodge Caravan traveling north Route 100 at high speed. After confirming the speed with radar, the deputy caught up with the driver, who initially pulled over, only to drive off after the deputy’s emergency lights were turned on.
The deputy turned on his siren and followed the vehicle, which drove into Wythe County while reaching speeds of 80 mph. Officials say the driver was weaving into the oncoming lane during the pursuit.
The pursuit stopped once the driver reached Castleton Road and came to a stop in a parking lot at the intersection. The sheriff’s office says 49-year-old Misty Michelle Dalton of Hillsville was arrested without incident and transported to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
A vehicle search was conducted, resulting in the discovery of drug contraband. Authorities say Dalton fled because she was “in fear for her life” and then admitted the drug contraband was hers, and she had consumed methamphetamine earlier in the day.
Dalton was taken before a magistrate, where probable cause was given for her arrest, officials say. She is currently facing the following charges:
- One count of felony elude
- One count of possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance
- One count of reckless driving
Dalton was later transported to the New River Valley Regional Jail and held on a $7,500 secured bond.
