UPDATE 3 p.m. (7/5/21): WFXR News has obtained new information about the kayaker who died this past weekend in the New River.
According to Authorities in Montgomery County, the kayaker came upon a set of falls/rapids known as “Arsenal Falls.”
The kayaker, Charles Wallace, was found dead in the area of those falls.
UPDATE 5:40 p.m. (7/4/21): The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources has confirmed to WFXR News that the missing kayaker was found dead.
He has been identified as Charles Wallace, 56, of Dublin.
Officials say he was not wearing a life jacket.

UPDATE 11:50 a.m. (7/4/21): The Pulaski County Special Operations Team has confirmed that they are back out searching for a missing kayaker.
They say that that crews responded to the area of the New River near the Lighthouse Bridge for a report of a submerged boat.
The search for the missing kayaker is ongoing.
UPDATE 7 a.m. (7/4/21) – Crews suspended their search for the missing kayaker in the NRV on Saturday night. They will be heading back out Sunday morning in an effort to locate the kayaker who was reported missing on Saturday.
Those searching are still asking people to stay away from the area of the search which, at least report, was centered around the Radford Army Ammunition Plant around the New River.
RADFORD, Va. (WFXR) – The Pulaski County Special Operations Team is on the scene helping Montgomery County Emergency Services locate a kayaker who went missing on the New River near the Radford Army Ammunition Plant.
Crews say that there will be a high volume of search boats and other teams on the scene during the search.
They are asking people to avoid this section of the river while the search for the missing kayaker continues.
