WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — An 8-acre wildfire has the USDA Forest Service and firefighters busy on Monday.

The Stoney Fork wildfire, located on the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests in Wythe County, has caused officials to close the Wythe Shooting Range at least through Friday.

Firefighters say that the blaze is not threatening any structures or residents and crews are working to contain it. The fire started Sunday evening on April 10. Officials will not reopen the shooting range until the fire is extinguished.

Forest Service, Wytheville Fire Department, Max Meadows Fire Department, Rural Retreat Fire Department, and the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office all assisted in fighting this fire.

The cause remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, the Virginia State Parks officials will perform a prescribed burn until 3 p.m. This will help maintain pollinator habitats, according to the county’s Facebook page.
