CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The Christiansburg Police Department announced on Facebook Monday the unexpected death of a K9 named Buck.

According to police, this four-year-old German Shepherd was certified in tracking and narcotics detection and worked with the department for three-and-a-half years with his partner, Officer Chad Eversole.

However, over the weekend, the department says Buck died as the result of liver failure from an underlying health issue.

“Buck was good at his job, focused and dedicated to the work. He also found time to make a lot of friends around our community, perform demonstrations for various schools and civic groups, and knew how to quickly put a smile on your face,” the Christiansburg Police Department wrote on Facebook on Monday, Feb. 22. “He was loved by his family, and at the end of a long work day, he was a caring and loyal pet. Our thoughts are with Officer Eversole, his wife, and their two young children.”
