UPDATE: Escaped Carroll County inmate captured

UPDATE 6:35 p.m.: The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the escaped inmate, James Wesley Wall, has been captured.


UPDATE 4:20 p.m.: The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office has updated the description of the escaped inmate from earlier Wednesday morning.

James Wesley Wall is wanted by U.S. Marshals after escaping from custody shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2 from the custody of the New River Valley Regional Jail.

The flyer, which can be seen below in the embedded Facebook article, indicates that Wall is white or white-Hispanic, is 5’11” tall, weighs 155 pounds, and has blue eyes and brown hair.

Wall also has several tattoos located on his abdomen, one on his upper left arm, one on his left arm (non-specific location and one tattoo on his back.

If you see Wall, you are asked to call 911 immediately.


CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Authorities in Carroll County are currently searching around the Fancy Gap Highway and Blue Ridge Parkway areas for an inmate who escaped from a transportation officer with the New River Valley Regional Jail early Wednesday morning.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, James Wesley Wall is a 39-year-old man who is about 5’11” tall, weighs 165 pounds, and has brown hair and blue eyes.

The New River Valley Regional Jail says Wall escaped the custody of a jail transportation officer in the Fancy Gap area shortly before 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2.

Wall was in custody for possession of stolen goods and driving with a suspended operator’s license, the jail says.

According to officials, the preliminary investigation revealed no force was used during the escape and nobody was injured, but a full investigation into the specific circumstances of the escape is ongoing.

The sheriff’s office has outstanding warrants for escape from the custody of the New River Valley Regional Jail and and larceny.
