GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police (VSP) is investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred on Saturday morning, Feb. 11.

The vehicle was being pursued by the Giles County Sheriff’s Office before it crashed.

The car, a 1998 Chevrolet Prizm, was traveling west on Route 460 about a half-mile west of Route 61 at high speeds, when it ran off the right side of the road, hit a ditch, and overturned.

Due to impact, the vehicle ran off the left side of the road, struck a guardrail, fell down the hillside, coming to a stop on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of Route 460.

The driver, 35-year-old Rebel Hodges, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was thrown from the vehicle. He died at the scene. The passenger, 33-year-old Shaddai Boyer, was wearing a seatbelt during the crash and was transported for treatment of serious injuries.

VSP says, no law enforcement made contact with the vehicle.
