CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Appalachian Power crews will be making repairs to the Buck Dam for the next two weeks.

Crews will be closing down the Buck portage on the New River as they make repairs which require lowering the Buck reservoir to an elevation of 1,995 feet. They will also make repairs to the flashboard and stanchions and replace any failing components to minimize any future drawdowns. When completed, the reservoir will be refilled.

The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources will post signs about the closure. Kayakers and canoeists will be asked to take off at Byllesby, which is the last access before reaching Buck Dam.
