Agape Center NRV looks to meet big need with winter clothes drive

New River Valley News

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — The cold weather we’ve seen in recent days has punctuated the importance of having warm clothing.

In the New River Valley, the need is at its height, thanks in part to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Agape Center NRV is looking to meet that need with donations.

The center’s Director of Clothing, Linda Bland, says need is at its height.

Donations were taken Wednesday, Feb. 3, and they’ll be taken two more days on Feb. 10 and Feb. 16.

Agape’s Clothing Closet Open Day will take place on Feb. 20.

The last Clothing Open Day that Agape held in late 2020 served around 150 people and Bland anticipates the same number, if not more, for the next event later this month.

Bland says the center is in need of men’s pants, particularly jeans and work pants.

Children’s clothes are also needed.

Each Open Day, Bland said the community has come out to support the need and is hoping for a similar showing of support.

“It is such a blessing to see, you know, a mother come and be able to clothe her child with warm things, for men to come in and find things,” Bland said. “God has so blessed us with the last opening, so it’s been a real blessing to see that happen.”

Bland says those who have immediate need or would like to give a donation outside of the upcoming donation days can call Tried Stone Christian Center at (540) 953-1522 or email at
