MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A 20-year-old and three teenagers wanted in New Jersey were taken into custody by Virginia state troopers and Montgomery County authorities over the weekend after a vehicle pursuit turned into an overnight manhunt.
Shortly before 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says Virginia State Police asked for deputies to help in the pursuit of a stolen vehicle that started along I-81.
Authorities say they were told that the individuals involved were connected to an armed robbery in New Jersey and were considered armed and dangerous.
Due to the large number of police vehicles already involved in the chase, the sheriff’s office says their deputies followed from a safe distance to provide assistance as needed.
Just after 8:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office says the individuals abandoned the vehicle in the Benoit Drive area of Montgomery County and ran away.
One of those individuals was taken into custody by Virginia State Police, who then called for a perimeter to be set up to contain the other individuals to that area. That perimeter was maintained by members of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, the Blacksburg Police Department, and the Virginia Tech Police Department.
State Police also requested help from the sheriff’s office’s drone team.
Throughout the night, authorities searched the area, but were unable to locate the other individuals.
Around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 5, State Police closed the command center and the perimeter they were searching and left the scene. However, the sheriff’s office remained on the scene through the night and into the morning.
At approximately 5:24 a.m., Montgomery County deputies and Blacksburg police officers reportedly located a second person and took that person into custody.
The sheriff’s office says the search continued until shortly after 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, when the remaining two individuals were found and arrested by deputies.
According to authorities, the following four people are all from New Jersey and are being held without bond on fugitive warrants.
- Dajuan K. Pittman, 20 years old
- Tristan W. Difilippo, 18 years old
- An unidentified juvenile female, 17 years old
- An unidentified juvenile male, 16 years old
The sheriff’s office told WFXR News that Defilippo is being uncooperative and they have not been able to release his mugshot as of this writing.
