In Botetourt County, plans are in place to preserve the Greenfield Plantation.
After a year of community meetings and a survey, with the help of a local landscape architect, the county plans to restore the historical buildings, cemeteries, and other historical assets.
The site will take visitors on a walk back in time starting from present day to 1607.
Officials say plans will be phased in over a period of five to ten years and they hope the community will stay involved throughout the process.
“While folks are coming in and learning about the structures or we have fold restoring the structures we want or we would want people to come and see that progress. So the process as well as the end product are all something we want people to experience,” said Cody Sexton, Management Assistant for Botetourt County.
After some community input, the Greenfield Preservation Advisory Commission is deciding on a name for the site.
Sexton says they also plan on incorporating walking trails and rest areas.
