The Roanoke Planning Commission will hear proposals for a new apartment complex potentially headed to the Williamson Road area.
The development, called Hershberger Meadows, includes two to three level units that include two bedrooms, two bathrooms, living room and kitchen priced between $750 and $850.
According to the proposal, there are roughly six acres by Hershberger Road and Winsloe Drive that the developers plan to build on.
“I think it’s going to help other developers sit up and take notice that we can provide and give great housing at a good price,” said Valerie Brown, executive director for the Williamson Road area business association.
The development will also include running and walking trails, a community fitness center, community ballroom for birthdays and family functions, and an Olympic sized pool for residents and neighbors.
Each unit will be 1,000 square feet.
Brown says this will attract families and senior populations alike and will give the Williamson Road area a boost.
“If you look at Williamson Road now, you look at it and think of a place where people have lived here forever or they’re renting and they’ll be on their way out,” said Brown.
“This adds a permanent seed to it. It makes it a good place to have a home.”
The Roanoke Planning Commission will hear the proposals Monday, April 8.
