New Freedom Farm in the running for $25,000 State Farm Neighborhood Assistance Grant

Local News

BUCHANAN, Va. (WFXR) — New Freedom Farm in Buchanan is currently top in the running for State Farm’s Neighborhood Assistance Grant, which awards 40 non-profit organizations with $25,000 each.

The farm’s founder and director, Lois Dawn Fritz, says the grant money would go toward putting a cover on the outdoor arena, which will let veterans work with the horses in bad weather. In addition, that cover will provide a more socially distanced set-up for outdoor events.

“Oh it will definitely be beneficial because we host Thanksgiving in our barn and we host a lot of events — barnyard breakfasts, barnyard barbecues,” said Fritz. “We won’t be renting tents anymore, we’ll be putting the cover on the arena and be able to set up tables and chairs there.”

You can vote for the grant winner up to 10 times a day, but voting ends on Friday, Oct. 2, before State Farm announces the winner on Nov. 4.
