(WFXR) — Almost 1,800 southwest Virginia customers — the majority of whom are in Bedford County — are currently impacted by Monday power outages, according to Appalachian Power.

As of 12:44 p.m. on Monday, May 2, the company says 1,793 customers are without power in the following localities:

  • Bedford County: 1,380 customers from four outage cases
  • Roanoke City: 323 customers from four outage cases
  • Roanoke County: 90 customers from seven outage cases

Over in Bedford County, Appalachian Power says 1,373 of the customers without power are dealing with a single outage located between Bedford and Forest. This outage started shortly before noon on Monday and crews are still assessing the situation, but power is expected to return by 5 p.m.

According to Appalachian Power, the largest outage in the Roanoke Valley is near the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport, which is affecting 205 customers and expected to be restored by 2 p.m. The company tells WFXR News that crews are currently repairing the equipment.

There is also an outage impacting 147 people in northeast Roanoke as part of a planned outage, but power should be restored by 2 p.m.
