Multiple road closures in place across Roanoke this week due to milling, paving, repair operations

Local News

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Starting Tuesday morning, several roads across the City of Roanoke will be closed throughout the week while crews perform milling, paving, and repair operations.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26 and Wednesday, May 27, officials say Liberty Road NE will be closed between Plantation Road and Hollins Road in order to allow crews to mill and pave the road.

During this closure, City of Roanoke Transportation says local access is not allowed on this section of Liberty Road. In addition, motorists are asked to follow the established detour and keep in mind that adjacent streets might see traffic delays due to the Liberty Road closure.

Liberty Road is one of several roads undergoing milling and paving this week. According to Roanoke officials, the following neighborhood roads will be affected by lane closures from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday, May 29:

  • Tuesday, May 26
Milling: Williamson Road (with tie-ins) and Liberty Road
Paving: Christian Avenue, Lanford Street, Birchlawn Avenue, and Barkley Avenue
  • Wednesday, May 27
    Milling: Plantation Road
Paving: Kennedy Street, Fugate Road, and Liberty Road
  • Thursday, May 28
    Milling: Plantation Road
Paving: Plantation Road and Williamson Road (with tie-ins)
  • Friday, May 29
Paving: Plantation Road and Williamson Road (with tie-ins)

City of Roanoke Transportation says traffic control will direct traffic around the various project areas, which may impact traffic on adjacent streets.

In addition, starting Tuesday, officials say the northbound lanes of Franklin Road will be closed at the intersection of Franklin Road, Wonju Street, and Broadway Avenue while crews complete sewer line repairs.

Until work is completed — which the City expects will be on Thursday, May 28 — northbound traffic will be detoured onto Wonju Street.

The City of Roanoke asks motorists to use caution when traveling through any of these work zones.
