ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Dozens of furry friends found their forever homes this weekend following the “Summer of Love MEGA Pet Adoption Event” in Roanoke on Saturday.
According to Angels of Assisi, through the combined effort of 12 animal welfare organizations and rescue groups, a total of 82 dogs, cats, and rabbits were adopted on Saturday, July 31 during the adoption event at the Berglund Center.
The Alleghany Humane Society, Angels of Assisi, Clover Cat Rescue, the Franklin County Humane Society Planned Pethood and Adoption Center, Friends of Bedford County Animal Shelter, the Humane Society of Montgomery County, Margaret’s Saving Grace Bully Rescue, the Pittsylvania Pet Center, the Regional Center for Animal Care and Protection, the Roanoke Valley SPCA, and Smyth Animal Rescue were all set to participate in Saturday’s adoption event.

A representative for Angels of Assisi estimated that approximately 150 animals were brought to the event to be adopted. The shelter representative also told WFXR News that all of the organizations involved in the adoption event had most of their animals taken in by new families, freeing up space in their facilities for more animals.
For example, of the 82 pets that were adopted from the Berglund Center on Saturday, Angels of Assisi says 13 of them were from the RCACP.
Meanwhile, the Friends of Bedford County Animal Shelter, Inc. says seven animals from the Bedford Shelter found forever homes on Saturday while a few others met potential pet parents at the event.
The event also provided free pet food for community members who needed help feeding their furry friends.
