Mill Mountain Zoo will have some new additions this upcoming season.
The zoo just announced plans to feature exhibits with animals native to the Blue Ridge Mountains – including a red fox.
The other exhibits will include the bald eagle and the black bear. Zoo officials say it’s a great opportunity for people to become familiar with wildlife found at home.
“This a a chance for people to learn about conservation, and the animals that are in their own backyard in this region. That’s important to the people of Roanoke, but also the people of Blue Ridge and the Appalachian region,” said Bill Baker, co-director of the Mill Mountain Zoo.
The Zoo also just received two donations totaling $75,000. The funds will be used to development the new exhibits.
