88-year-old John Wimbush has been found safe after police said he was abducted Wednesday.
According to police, Valerie Condell who is accused of taking him is in custody.
Police said Condell reportedly pretended to be Wimbush’s daughter so she could abduct him and extort money.
Wimbush was being evaluated at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Washington D.C. this morning. Police said he appears fine and waited at the hospital for his family members to arrive.
Police announced August 1 that Wimbush was missing and believed to be in danger. He had been last seen August 1 at 10:30 a.m. on Forest Street in Martinsville. Police said he has dementia and suffers from other medical conditions.
Condell is expected to be extradited back to Virginia.

The Martinsville Police Department would like to thank the Virginia State Police, the Maryland State Police, and the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, the United States Marshals Service, and especially the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Police all who worked closely with our own investigators to recover Mr. Wimbush and bring Ms. Condell into custody.
