UPDATE: A death in Martinsville is now being investigated as a homicide.
Police say the cause of Katherine Likens death has been determined to be blunt force trauma to the head.
Ms. Likens was reported as missing on Thursday at about 12:21 p.m. After several hours of searching, officers found her body in a wooded area between Ellswoth Street and Cleveland Avenue.

Martinsville Police continue to investigate the death of Katherine Likens. The cause of death has been determined to be blunt force trauma to the head and the case is ruled a homicide. Multiple investigators are continuing to track down leads.
On Thursday at approximately 12:21 pm Ms. Likens was reported missing. Upon receipt of the information, police officers began tracing Ms. Likens’ daily routines and typical routes of travel.
After several hours of searching multiple locations, officers found Ms. Likens’ body in the wooded area in between Ellsworth Street and Cleveland Avenue.

Martinsville Police confirm to WFXR News they found a body Thursday afternoon in the uptown area.
Officers have identified the body as 53-year-old Katherine White Likens of Martinsville.
According to police, the body was found in a wooded area in between Ellsworth Street and Cleveland Avenue around 4:25 p.m.
The body has been sent to the Medical Examiner’s Officer in Roanoke for an official cause of death.
