UPDATE: Sheriff releases additional details in earlier Rockbridge County manhunt

Local News

UPDATE 5:39 P.M.: Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office has provided more information about the manhunt this afternoon.

According to the sheriff’s office, officers with the Skyline Drug Task Force were seeking to arrest a “fugitive” wanted on multiple felonies and misdemeanors out of three different jurisdictions.

The search led officers to the Timber Ridge area where they found the suspect hiding in a culvert pipe where Mill Creek flows, according to officials.

Deputies attempted to convince the fugitive to turn himself in during the two-hour standoff, but the person refused, authorities said.

Police saw the fugitive move about the pipe, and when they no longer detected movement, deputies entered the pipe and removed the fugitive from the cold water to begin life-saving measures.

The suspect was transported to Carilion Stonewall Jackson Hospital for treatment.

The sheriff’s office said the person’s identity will be released once the family has been informed.

UPDATE 4:05 P.M.: Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office announces the person of interest in the manhunt is in custody.
