Prosecutors said Jacob Hancock-Tapia will serve seven years in prison after he was sentenced in a sexual assault case.
The 26-year-old man is accused of following a woman at a Blacksburg store last June and later sexually assaulting her on the ground after offering her a ride in his car.
Prosecutors said the victim was able to head butt her attacker and ran away.
“Thankfully random physical attacks by complete strangers are rare in Montgomery County. I hope the maximum sentence will give the survivor some peace and aid in her recovery,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Mary Pettitt.
